Hallelujah... chance!

Posted by biboybob Monday, April 28, 2008 0 comments

I woke up at 10am yesterday after playing DotA until around 3:30am, and after eating my brunch and doing some of the laundry, i realized i got nothing more to do. And so i turned on my pc (almost unconsciously hehe) and looked for a site where i can watch this japanese drama: Proposal Daisakusen: Operation Love.

I've been hearing a lot about how good and funny this series is, but i didn't have that much interest in j-dramas until i watched (and laughed at) the first episode of Hana Kimi. I've always found japanese girls very pretty, and immediately after learning that the one in Operation Love is so damn cute, i said to myself that i have to watch her no matter what. ^^

Released in April 2007, Proposal Daisakusen is about two childhood friends, Ken and Rei. Ken loved Rei for the longest time, but was not able to let her know and feel it because of him being a bit stupid and weak-willed (talking about a typical HS boy). Now Rei is getting married, and Ken is giving his wedding speech teary-eyed, talking about how good he and Rei have been together since elementary. After his speech a slideshow of Rei's photos was shown, with him in some of them. As others were looking at the slides, Ken wished so hard on wanting to turn back time, and let him be the one to marry Rei.

Who would not regret not being able to marry a girl this cute, when he's got the chance?

This is Ken giving his toast. Argh!
Lights went out, and a weird Fairy appeared in front of Ken. This is a very funny part! ^^ He told him that he can go back in time, until the time the photo in the slideshow was taken, he just have to say "Hallelujah... chance!" (doing it reminded me of Kyon swinging that Hare Hare Yukai dance) And so he went, not even remembering what actually happened before that photo. Can he really change the future with that limited amount of time? Can he make it to be Rei's husband?

First slideshow photo where Ken will be brought back.
It is definitely cheating going back to the past and re-arranging things for the better, because you already have an idea of the results of your mistakes. But man if someone (or something) will give me that "hallelujah chance" thing, i would definitely grab it! I would probably change most of the things that i did in late HS and college, coz those are the times when i know i did a lot of mistakes hehe. Not that i am frustrated with the me right now, but it's always good when you have more options (and chances) especially if you have the full idea of what's gonna happen with each choices, isn't it?

I just realized that it has been a year since this series was released, so if you are as out-dated as i am, go time-travelling and watch Proposal Daisakusen here at Crunchyroll. ^^

Happy 3rd CooCoo Anniversary!

Posted by biboybob Friday, April 25, 2008 0 comments

It was this day of 2005 when thirty kids (and kids at heart) went into a cramped classroom (which actually was a parking lot) in GT Tower. For three weeks they were to study one of the oldest programming languages on earth: COBOL. The group is composed of mostly fresh graduates from across the country, but there were also experienced ones, those who were called halimaw developers hehe. Together they studied, shared codes, jokes, and even lunches, and have developed a bond (not the one worth P100 000) among each of the members. Together they called themselves the CooCoo batch. ^^

So why the name CooCoo batch? A previous group called theirs COBOListas, and others proclaimed themselves as COBOLleros. Ours was picked because of a very funny reason: Our training room has a karaoke, and for some reasons, it was always tuned to 90.7 (Love Radio). And so there were several times when we had to stop coding to laugh at the DJ's jokes, and at their station ID (or whatever that is) "kukurukuku, kelangan pa ba imemorize yan?" Haha.

And so when the time came that we had to decide what name we want ourselves to be called, we went for CooCoo Batch! And each of the members was called a CooCoo! ^^

Today, some of the CooCoos have left "the company" where we all met and became friends, including me (I resigned on this same day last year), but as our saying goes: Once a CooCoo, always a CooCoo! Hahaha.

Happy anniversary CooCoos! Three years! Yeah! ^^

Sunburn!

And so I got back from my first (so far) beach trip this summer: Montemar Beach Club in Bagac, Bataan. It was an extra-hot day, your feet will literally burn if you stay on the sand for a minute.

The resort is huge, so big we weren't able to explore the whole place. Their shore wasn't as good as those of Palawan and Boracay, but their waves were probably the biggest ones that I've encountered. The thrilled kids in in us were hyper: a few minutes after arrival we immediately went swimming into the beach. We just stopped for lunch, and then went back again to the water until around 3pm.

The water and the waves were enough for me to ignore the heat of the sun, and forget that I have to apply sunblock not just on my face. After the fun, the skin on my shoulders was that of a lechon. Argh, sunburns! Sobrang hapdi! They're making it hard for me to sleep, konting galaw lang ramdam ko na!

Price to be paid for being so excited. It can't be helped. :((

Haruhi is Watching You

Posted by biboybob Monday, April 14, 2008 0 comments

I've bump into this post a long time ago, but since I am very much crazy about Haruhi Suzumiya figures these days, I thought I just have to share this with you. One of the prettiest and naughtiest anime girls of all time (i said so), you should really get to know her more.

So what's with the Haruhi picture? It may seem like an ID pic to you, but forgive me, I do not know how to get that "live" Haruhi from the original source, especially when the captions are in Nihongo. Anyway, please enjoy playing with her eyeballs here.

Watch Haruhi for free as she tries to undress her schoolmates in the series Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuutsu. Or, if luckily that link is blocked at your office, you may just want to try to read the manga here.

If someone knows how I can download that Flash file for myself, please let me know. I will never sell it, promise. ^_^

Nendoroid Mania!

Posted by biboybob Sunday, April 13, 2008 0 comments

Been hearing a lot about Nendoroids, these little babies are quickly becoming the top priorities among anime collectors. A lot of them lurking around toy shops, online and not, even throwing their scaled and articulated competitors out!

So what are these Nendoroids really? No, they are not like Androids. After a few minutes of googling, I couldn't find a page where it is defined, at least in English. I am sure there should be in Japanese sites, but i guess it wouldn't be practical if I'll take Nihonggo lessons first before I post. Kidding. So, let me describe them for you, at least as how I see them.

Nendoroids are super-deformed versions of anime, game, move, etc characters. They usually come with a body too small for the large head, and with cute and funny facial expressions. They may be small but they are terribly adorable, and they do not come cheap. A single Nendo costs for about Php 1200-1600, just as pricey as their full-articulated counterparts. A box of 12 Nendo petits (smaller Nendos) would be around Php 3000-3500. Despite the price, they have been very popular even here in the Philippines, that a lot of characters are released, and a whole lot more are coming!

Light Yagami of Deathnote

L of Deathnote

Ryuk of Deathnote

Haruhi Suzumiya

... and the rest of her gang!

Miku Hatsune

Lucky Star stars

Irresistible, aren't they? But as much as I want to get hold of them, I think I would pass since getting one of them would mean getting all of them. Nendoroid mania, that is.

Ozine Fest 2008

Posted by biboybob Monday, April 7, 2008 0 comments

Went to SM Megamall this afternoon for the Ozine Fest 2008, hoping that I could dig some bargains. The entrance fee is 100 pesos, but unfortunately I didn't find anything interesting among the few toy booths around Megatrade Hall 2. If not for the cosplayers, I could have gone home after a few minutes.

The venue is small and a little hot, good thing these didn't ruin the cosplay contest. There were 252 participants, it took around two and a half hours before everyone was done with the catwalk. Sobrang sakit tuloy ng binti ko pagkatapos! The place is crowded that it is a bit hard to take pictures since hindi ka makapwesto ng maayos. Nonetheless, this is probably the cosplay event that I enjoyed the most. There was a good mix of old and new anime characters that were portrayed, and most of the cosplayers were not hesitant to give their best on their presentations.
Of course, heroes from our favorite animes like Naruto, Bleach, and Fullmetal Alchemist are present during the event. What surprised me is that a number of participants also picked those which are from the not-so-popular-locally series such as Code Geass, D.Gray-Man, and Shakugan no Shana. Also, lolitas are everywhere to be seen, something that is not common, as far as I know, during the previous cosplays.

Ok, enough of the talking. I know you only want the photos so here they are (below each is the caption):^ A lot of people went around the stage, this is the closest that I can be. T_T
^ Banners featuring some of our faves are all around the place, too bad I wasn't able to take some.
^ This has also been an event for Lineage II, a MMORPG. I was too busy I didn't ask what they are doing here for.
^ It's always good to start the day with our friends from Naruto. This is Uchiha Sasuke in Shipuuden costume. Nice belt!
^ Aburame Shino modelling for Transformers figures. Cool shades!
^ A few minutes after dressing up, Master Jiraiya got her first female victim! ^^
^ I belive this is Kankuro, minus the face markings. I couldn't believe he replaced them with an eyeglasses. What's the problem huh?
^ And of course, cosplays would not be complete if you don't a single Akatsuki member lurking around...
^ Lacus Clyne from Gundam Seed bacame cuter even more with her green Haro.
^ Cute little sisters! Oh by the way, why is Cloud Strife with you?
^ The prettiest Yuna (FFX2) cosplayer that I've ever seen, and probably the prettiest in this event! Too bad she wasn't smiling here...^ Pretty neat costume, but I forgot who she is.
^ Nasaan ang liwanag?
^ And some more cosplayers that I don't know...
^And more...
^ He's from Final Fantasy I believe...
^ And more...
^ Believe me brother, you don't need that poster to tell us who you are. ^^
^ I wonder what's in this lolita that Kenpachi (Bleach) eagerly wants that he had to swing his Zanpakutoh...
^ Hard Gay on the left, Iron Man on the right. These two sure have too much in common!
^ This is my friend Ian begging for his life as he is being choked by Hellboy. I couldn't help him since I was holding my camera.
^ More cute little girls...
^ And a cute little... WTH happened to Bumblebee?! All because of that prism?!
~~~
EDIT: After viewing my post, I realized that even I get annoyed of my photo-caption layout. It should have been the caption first before the photo to lessen the confusion. But it's past 12am already, and I am too lazy today so I guess you should just forgive me. ^^
Infinite time stopped beating its heart, and humans burnt away without making any noise. Not one person notices as the world becomes dislocated and is covered in the flames of Guze.
Ano daw?! This is what I automatically shouted to myself as I watched this anime's first episode. The two-liner opening of the series introduces the whole idea of what this anime is all about.
The series revolves around a high school student Yuji Sakai, who, after meeting a girl Flame Haze (someone who protects the balance of the world) whom he named Shana (from the name of the sword she uses) learned that he is already dead. Apparently he is just a torch, a blue flame-like object that temporarily replaces dead humans as to not distract the world's balance. Torches eventually burn out, and the existence of that person will be forgotten forever.
Yuji and Shana later realized that among all the torches, only Yuji's torch has the ability to intensify its flame every night and thus will never burn out. For this reason, he became the target of Rinnes and Tomogaras, those who eat human existence to gain power. Shana later falls in love with Yuji, a feeling new to her as a heartless Flame Haze. Yuji does not want to be forgotten, and does not want to forget her friends, including Shana, and her family forever. Together, with the help of their friends, Yuji and Shana fight against the world's enemies.I would say this anime has a very unique concept. Instead of the enemies just eating human flesh, they eat existence, something that we never really cared about. Who would want to stay in this world without anyone knowing him? Who would want to have a happy life today, but be forgotten starting the next day?
The illustrations are great, although you wouldn't find something new in this series. The weapons and the characters' abilities are mostly common among animes. I think its story is the major thing that made it very popular. Unfortunately, Shakugan no Shana has not been shown in the Philippines yet. Maybe because of its uniqueness, local producers think that this might not draw as much viewers.
Shakugan no Shana consists of 23 episodes and a movie, try watching them here. It has been very popular in both manga and anime, that a second installment has been made recently.
Top 10 Peeves Dogs Have With Humans
Posted by biboybob Sunday, April 6, 2008 0 comments
Some of you might have received this via email, it is so funny (well at least for me :P) that I wanted to re-post it here. Come to think of it, if only our doggies can speak, they might have actually said some of this:
1. Blaming your farts on me..... not funny... not funny at all!
2. Yelling at me for barking. I'M A FRIGGIN' DOG
3. Taking me for a walk, then not letting me check stuff out. Exactly whose walk is this anyway?
4. Any trick that involves balancing food on my nose. Stop it!
5. Any haircut that involves bows or ribbons. Now you know why we chew your stuff up when you're not home.
6. The sleight of hand, fake fetch throw. You fooled a dog! Whoooo oooooooo what a proud moment for the top of the food chain.
7. Taking me to the vet for "the big snip", then acting surprised when I freak out every time we go back!
8. Getting upset when I sniff the crotches of your guests. Sorry, but I haven't quite mastered that handshake thing yet.
9. Dog sweaters. Hello Haven't you noticed the fur?
10. How you act disgusted when I lick myself. Look, we both know the truth. You're just jealous.
With Yuki, I guess I am guilty with numbers 2, 3, 5, and 6. I wonder if she's also thinking that way...
You may see the original post here.
Boredom Kills
Posted by biboybob Saturday, April 5, 2008 0 comments
If this is true, I would have died three weeks ago. With nothing to do but stare on my PC, I thought of myself as a fruit that is just waiting to get rotten. The first week was ok, as I considered it as a break. The second was not good, and the third was a disaster. During those days I have become the most unproductive person that I can be. With nothing to give and nothing to look forward to. It's as if I am just waiting for something that is not bound to happen. Time, which I consider scarce before, has been as abundant as it can possibly be. So available that I do not know how to consume it.
My idle mind now believes that too much rest can sometimes make me weak. And so I thought, I want to be the person that I am before. I want to contribute, and I want to enjoy being rewarded. I want to re-trace the footsteps that I have left. If I can't do it from where I am right now, I guess it's better to look for some place else.
Papercraft
Posted by biboybob Thursday, April 3, 2008 0 comments
Have read about this from a forum that I am regularly visiting, and it's so good that I can't help but repost.
Paper models, card models, or papercrafts are models/figures mainly made not from the usual plastic types but from, of course, paper. Building and collecting these have become a very popular hobby and a lot of very detailed and complex paper models have been available worldwide. Loads of free patterns can also be found on the internet. One would not expect that papers can be transformed into something that highly resembles other objects, from mansions to gadgets, and even people. Of course the manga and anime world would definitely be a great theme for papercrafts, and so far I have been very interested to some of them:
Fate/Stay Night
Download the patterns here.
Gundams
Go mecha here.
Pokemon
Get them here.
Star Wars
Get tons of them here.
Not even companies can resist the popularity of papercrafting. Yamaha Motors has their own line of realistic motorcycles, while Canon created some kiddie stuff.
Please take note that I did not create any of models above, and so I do not claim ownership to them. If you are thinking of asking me on how to successfully create one, I could not help you since I haven't even tried on printing one. You may contact their creators, as all rights are reserved to them. Ok ok? ^^
Yuki For Summer
Posted by biboybob Tuesday, April 1, 2008 2 comments
After Yuki had her cut for the summer, our quest to make her feel more comfortable continued with us giving her what we think she mostly needs during this time of the year. Here's how we have started so far:
A pair of sunglasses isn't bad, is it? Well, summer has just started so we can still make a few adjustments, depending on how Yuki will feel with what we're doing to her. ^^
