Toys Versus A Jacket

Posted by biboybob Thursday, March 4, 2010 2 comments

Well it's this time of the year again: I am turning a year wiser in a few weeks. Parties have always been the norms for birthday celebrations, but it's something that I stopped having since I was a 14 or so. Kapag tinatanong ako ng tatay ko at ng iba ko pang relatives kung ano ang gusto kong handa at regalo, I either say "perahin nyo na lang" or "pahingi na lang ako ng pambili ng [insert worldly items here]".

That's because I try to get something that I want during my birthday. 2010 is Toys versus a jacket, and I am still torn between these three:

1.GX-43 Daimos - I've wanted to get this after I bought my GX-31 Voltes V robot but somehow something always get in the way. The fact that I am still thinking of getting this after a few failed attempts made it #1 on my list.

2.Masterpiece Optimus Prime - A little more expensive than my #1, but it can be said that this is the best Optimus Prime one can get for his money. I just hope there's still one available out there, with or without the trailer, just in case I decided to get this instead of Daimos. It will also be a good addition to my non-transforming Transformers.

3.Adidas Stormtrooper Jacket - Kung nakita ko lang 'to when I was in the US, binili ko na. But I didn't. A friend told me it is sold here locally, pricey though. But I doubt na magiging mas mahal kesa sa #1 and #2, kaya kung kukulangin budget ko, I'd be happy to settle with this kahit na kakabili ko lng ng ibang hoodies at sa office ko lang nagagamit kasi doon lang malamig.

You might be wondering why I posted this kind of entry earlier than usual. You guessed it right! Mas maaga, mas malaki chance kong maka-collect ng birthday gifts (aka. pera) from you my friends! Hehe. Kidding aside, I am still undecided so your views on which one I should get will be appreciated. :)

Magka-2010 Entry Man Lang.

Posted by biboybob Monday, February 22, 2010 0 comments

Alive and biting pa din!

2. Tumigil muna sandali sa trabaho. Naks ulit, workaholic daw! Pero totoo, nakakatamad 'tong araw na to. Pati pag-eenglish kinatamaran ko kaya tagalog tong post na 'to (excuses).

3. May mag-click ulit ng links ko. Sayang din ang pera, pambili ng laruan.

Ayan napahaba pa. Plano ko sana e one-liner lang ulit. Di bale babawi ako. Paki-antay next post ko. Pwede na kaya ang Hello 2011!?

The cheese has moved again, and it's probably time to look for it around the maze.

No Wishlists for this Year

Posted by biboybob Sunday, March 29, 2009 0 comments

Unlike last year when I've spent so much just to celebrate my birthday, I think this day should pass without me shelling out a single cent. Masyado na akong naging magastos ngayong 2009, considering it's been just three months. Plus I will be spending a lot more, as I plan on doing some home renovations. In short, wala na akong extrang pera haha. And what good is a wishlist kung hindi ko din susubukang tuparin di ba? Materialistic pa naman ako. Hohoho.

This is not a rant. I am actually happy (and contented, unbelievably, for now) with where I am and what I have right now. At the back of my head I know that these are not enough, and there are times na nasasabi ko sa sarili kong 26 years old na ako pero wala pa din akong nararating.

Pero san ko ba talaga gustong pumunta? This is yet to be answered, kasi honestly hindi ko pa din alam. But I believe I am not lost. This year sabi ko, I will be living my life one day at a time. With no plans and not thinking about the future too much, I need not hurry on life. So far, so good pa naman.

Tama na, ang serious e. Birthday ko 'to, dapat puro kalokohan! :D :D

No pressure! ^_^

Kwentong LRT/MRT

Posted by biboybob Sunday, March 1, 2009 0 comments

3. The Turtles.

4. Eto malupit. The Great Pretenders.

Seeing the World in 20/20

Posted by biboybob Thursday, February 26, 2009 0 comments

Isang buwan after making one of the biggest decision of my life, I think having my eyes go under surgery is not a bad move after all. So far, so good ika nga. My last exam proved that I am seeing the world in 20/20 (kumanta pa ako ng may liwanag ang buhay...) although sa gabi parang mas gusto kong mas luminaw pa hehe.

Thanks to Dheng and Chris, galing nyong kumumbinsi hehe. Salamat din kay Lord syempre, I know He's always listening to my prayers at lagi akong pinagbibigyan.

Goodbye na sa eyeglasses at contacts. Hindi ko na kayo isasama sa mga lakad ko, iwan na kayo when i travel to see the world -- hi-def.

I've had enough of Smart!

Posted by biboybob Wednesday, January 14, 2009 1 comments

Today I had my line cut voluntarily. I've been using this cellphone number for a long time now, and I really hate to get a new one. But I've had enough of Smart's BS, that I'd rather inform hundreds of contacts from my phonebook, rather than spend another two years with a low-quality service provider.

Try to imagine these:

- Six weeks after applying for retention, I still haven't got my new unit. After a few follow-ups and a couple of visits to the wireless center where I submitted my application, still nothing. I'm not really after the phone since I have a decent one. The waiting is killing me, it seems to me that they are not actually processing my papers, when a friend of mine got hers in just two weeks, and others in two days.

- I was about to board my plane going to the US last June when I tried activating the roaming capability of my SIM, just to know from the Smart's phone agent that I need to pay at least P2500 for the activation since I am a postpaid user. That's a total rip off!! I mean, WTF?! To think that roaming is almost automatic for prepaid users!

And these are just the worst. I still got encounters with their customer support reps, and so on... For the meantime, I'll go get a Globe prepaid SIM first thing in the morning. I don't know yet if their service is good, but moving away from Smart for now is what would make me feel a little better.

Happy New Year!

There's still some rain up to this minute so I thought it would not be a good thing for me to bring my camera outside. It is impossible to get great pictures anyway. But it would be a shame just sitting inside our house, so I went out and gave it a try. Luckily here are my outputs:

Of course I was just kidding. ^^ I got these photos not from my camera, but from my computer. These are not even my shots! These are Jeremy's attempts on capturing the highlight of the Independence Day celebration while we are on Harriet Island, MN last July. Great shots! Thanks!

Welcome 2009!

got this Figumate Haruhi Suzumiya from Jim as his christmas gift for me (thanks! ^.^); very kawaii that i wasn't able to control myself from opening it: and of course since this is Haruhi's most popular pose, i am obliged to take her pictures with her twin: and why is Konata copying her idol-sempai? what's with that plain face?

tsuruya-san does not want to be left of... what is Konata doing there anyway? she doesn't even belong to their school!

for now these puchis will have to be returned to their respective boxes until i got myself one of those display cabinets. argh!

Fortune Cookie

Posted by biboybob 2 comments

* posted December 12, 2008 on Multiply

Got this from a fortune cookie after having my last lunchout with friends in downtown St.Paul. We are to go back to Manila the next day. Feeling optimistic, I kept the small strip of paper on my wallet after writing that day's date.

Fast forward -- December 12, 2008.

I thought I would be hired for a new job on this date. But with the crisis that's going on worldwide, I didn't pursue that much on landing on a place with a bigger paycheck. Abang-abang na lang muna.

I thought I would that million-peso pot on a lottery. But then again I'm not a fan of gambling, probably because I am not as lucky as the others when it comes to betting.

And then there's my wild dream. I thought that would be it. Don't ask, I'm keeping it for myself, it didn't happen anyway. :P

So what's with this fortune cookie? None of the things that I am expecting became true! I never believed this much on something like this (I don't have a single strain of China in my blood), just today. Dapat pala hindi ko na lang pinansin.

But just when I was writing this, I realized na mas masuwerte pa pala ako kesa sa iniisip ko. Even without those wishes coming true. A lot of good things happened to me this year. And as far as I can remember, mas madami akong iniisip on this same month last year kesa ngayon. I also realized na kelangan mo lang talagang mag-isip, weigh and be thankful sa mga blessings that we usually ignore lalo na kung madalas nating matanggap.

I just need to be more optimistic. Just as what Rico said: you can thank your stars all you want, but i'll always be the lucky one. Go, idol!

We should always feel and belive that we are lucky, whatever happens. Yan naman ang sabi ko.

.

Badtrip ka Pablo!

Posted by biboybob Wednesday, October 1, 2008 0 comments

We should have been enjoying ourselves in Tagaytay by now kung hindi dahil sayo! It could have been my first “real” trip since getting back to Manila tapos ganyan ka… wrong timing ka e!

And so I ended up sitting in front of my desktop, listening to Boys Like Girls and Coldplay while surfing. We should be taking pictures of Taal by now. Tsk tsk...

Anyway, i-resched na lang and I hope matuloy na. Wala na sanang bagyo.

It feels good to be back!

hehehe.

Thanks! :D

Sale Sickness

Posted by biboybob Sunday, July 6, 2008 0 comments

Friday. We went to Albertville Premium Outlets for their July 4 sale. Most of us were soooo excited, especially the girls, since they know that 100 outlet stores including Adidas, Nike, CK, Kenneth Cole, Polo RL, Coach, Nine West etc. are waiting for them. I am excited too, but the kuripotness in me whispers na kelangan ko daw mag-ipon hehe. Ang dami namin sa roadtrip, wee are 12 in all, but we rented a 15-seater van to give us more room just in case we get carried away.

As soon as some of the outlets have opened (we got there 8:30am e 10am pa pala nagbubukas, obvious na excited haha), we started our "journey". Lahat merong gustong store na puntahan at bilihan, kaya galit-galit muna. As for me, I wanted a pair of shoes, two pairs of jeans, a watch, and a few shirts. Yun lang. But who would have guessed that I would also fall into the trap?

Tingnan nyo naman kasi yung mga deals:

Shoes: 50% off each pair, tapos kapag bumili ka ng 2 pairs may libre pang isa.
Shirts: 50% - 70% off kaya ang prices around $3 - $10 na lang.
Watches: $30 each or less.
Caps: $5 - $10 each, buy 2 and get 20% off, 3 and get 30% off, and so on...
Bags, Jeans, and all the other items: 50% - 70% off!

Ayun yung plan ko, nadoble! This is the first time (in my entire life) na bumili ako ng 5 pairs of shoes (usually one in a year), a dozen shirts, and a watch (every two to three years) in one day! And worse, I wasn't able to buy anything for my mom and my sister!

Just as we expected, sobrang sikip nung van nung umuwi na kami. Literally natatabunan kami ng pinamili namin.

Saturday. On with the sale sickness. We went to Best Buy and Circuit City stores in Maplewood. Buti na lang either mahal or sold-out na yung plan kong bilhin: Creative Zen. Just when I thought delayed na yung paggastos ko ulit, natuloy kaming pumunta ng Mall of America, sale din kasi. The damage done: two pairs of slippers and a polo shirt. In a span of two days, I've spent an amount a little less than my allowance for 10 days. <--Pampalubag-loob haha!

Sunday Plans: Go to church tapos mag-stay sa loob ng apartment maghapon, wag lalabas and resist temptations.

Now I hate Albertville, MN. :P

A Week in St. Paul

Posted by biboybob Sunday, June 22, 2008 0 comments

I could have posted my US immigration experience last Saturday, but I thought it wouldn't do me any good thinking about something as annoying as that. So I'll just give you some of the things that we did for a week in this foreign city. Eto na!

- Hindi namin alam kung pano gumamit ng dishwasher, so we had to try it out. Inilagay namin lahat ng utensils and wares and after an hour, natapos din. When we checked our kitchen, bumaha na pala sa sahig.

- Of course we have to get some grocery items, e hindi namin alam kung san yung pinakamalapit kaya naghanap kami sa internet. Ayun, we walked to a supermarket 2 miles away from our apartment! Kakakagod, more than 30 mins kaming naglakad haha.

- Now the problem is how to get back to our apartment with all those plastic bags full of groceries. Good. After 40mins of waiting for the stupid yellow cab, naglakad kami papunta sa nearest bus stop, which is about a mile from the supermarket.

Hindi namin alam kung papano, so nung malapit na sa apartment namin, we all stood up thinking the driver would realize that we want to get off. Deadma.

- Almost everything here is automatic, from the doors to the washers. Pero hindi ang drinking fountain. Akala ni Carmi high-tech din yun that she just have to put her face near the faucet, pero after a few seconds na nakatapat yung bibig nya sa "sensor", wala pa din lumalabas. E wala naman palang sensor haha.

- Galing akong airport, kinuha ko passport ko (Thanks for keeping it, Mr. Immigration Officer! Argh!). Sumakay ako ng bus na sa tingin ko dadaan sa downtown St. Paul, where our office is at. Merong sumakay na 3 drunkards and they started to create a scene sa loob ng bus. Nyay! Buti na lang merong isang malaking mama na ni-grab yung mga drunkards and forced them to get off the bus. Ang saya magbus sa Minnesota! :P

- Our manager got concerned when he learned na hindi kami makakita ng mga veggies at condiments na lasang pinoy. So he volunteered to drive us to some asian supermarkets ng lunch break. Nice! Is that how you thank me, you coconut-stealing pinoys?

We're not allowed to do that, you know? You're just buying those beers for him (Jerome) coz he came here a while ago and he doesn't have an ID! I know that's for him! After our third try, binigyan na din kami hehe.

Wtf.java

Posted by biboybob Thursday, May 15, 2008 0 comments

After 3 days of trying to unlearn what I know so far about COBOL and structured programming, and at the same time struggling to learn Java, I feel like I am not getting anywhere. The words from our instructor's mouth is similar to the java classes: sobrang dami, sobrang gulo, wala akong maintindihan!
And to think that I need to learn as quickly as possible since by June I am expected to do Java work! Bakit nga ba ulit ako nagvolunteer dito?

Wtf. I really hope matuto ako hehe.

Sagada Itinerary

Posted by biboybob Monday, May 12, 2008 2 comments

For those who have been asking me on how we went to Sagada and what we did there, here's a summary of our trip (I've long wanted to write about it and get out of my laziness, and this is the best try so far):

Day 0
9:00PM - 3:15AM ~ Trip from Manila to Baguio. Took us around 6 hours. In my opinion, it is best to get a bus from Victory Liner Pasay since they have trips every hour.
* Fare will cost you P395.00.
* Two stop-overs.

Day 1
3:15AM ~ Arrival to Baguio. From Victory Liner Baguio, we took a cab to Dangwa Station, where Lizardo Bus Lines is located. Their buses will take us to Sagada.
* Taxi fare would be around P35.00 - P40.00.

6:00AM - 12:30PM ~ Trip from Baguio to Sagada. Took us another 6 hours. It is best to get to Dangwa at around 5:00am to make sure that you get the first trip.
* Fare will cost you P220.00, all buses do not have aircons.
* First trip leaves at 6:00am, last trip leaves at 1:00pm.
* Some roads are rough, better take anti-motion sickness pills
* Two stop-overs.

12:30PM ~ Arrival to Sagada.
* It is required for all tourists to register at the municipal hall first.
* Rates for inns, lodges, transients, tour guides, van rentals, etc are available at the municipal hall
* It is required to hire tour guides in almost all of the tourist spots

Around 3:ooPM ~ Burial Cave Trek

Around 5:00PM - 7:30PM ~ Sumaging Cave Trek
* Wear something comfortable
* You may also want to get yourself wet inside the cave
* Bring drinking water
* For these 2 trips, you may not rent a van yet since these sites are close to the municipal hall (provided you are staying near it)

Day 2
Around 9:00AM - 2:00PM ~ Trek to Big Falls, Rice Terraces
* Wear swim suits, boardshorts!
* Bring lots of drinking water and packed lunch if you want
* You may want to wear shoes, since this trek will take you around 3 hours to and from

Around 3:00PM ~ Trips to Echo Valley, Sagada Weaving, etc.
* These are trips not as tiring as that of going to the Big Falls
* Make sure that you rent a van (will cost you about P1400.00 for the whole day, plus the tour guide fee of P1200.00)
* Make sure you do these and the Sumaging Cave trek on different days, just as we did

Day 3
Around 7:30AM ~ Casual Walk around Sagada
* While waiting for the 9:00am bus ride back to Baguio (the first bus leaves at 7:00am)
* Walk to the church, the hospital, view some cliffs, etc.

Some more tips:
* Bring medicines, iodine solutions, bandage, etc. just in case. ^^
* Drink Vitamin C, to increase your resistance to colds, cough, etc. since it' very cold in Sagada.
* Better bring liters of water, then just transfer it to smaller bottles during trips, as bottled water in Sagada can be a bit pricey.
* Make a reservation to inns in advance. We didn't do this, and we five end up staying at a more costly room only good for three.
* Do some stretching before the trek, as it can be very very tiring. A few jogs in the morning won't hurt. ^^
* Read and do some reseacrh on Sagada first, as this trip may not be enjoyable to some people. You may want to browse Visit Sagada, most of the info we had came from it.

This is all for now. I know I have missed something, do if you have more questions, feel free to post. :P

Lazy-ness

Posted by biboybob Thursday, May 8, 2008 0 comments

I've been trying to write something about our Sagada-Baguio trip last weekend, but for some reasons I always stop in the middle of my story-telling. Last night I thought I'd just post a summary about the said getaway, only giving the places that we've been, the fare, and maybe highlighting the good/bad about it. After writing a few lines, I decided to just go to bed. My last attempt was this one, but as you can see I ended up not telling anything about the falls, the caves, or the rice terraces.

I'm not sure why I am so lazy these past few days. I thought that this could be because I got sick as we are travelling down to Baguio, and I still am sick, but I realized that it has been long since I felt the energy that I used to have everyday.

I'm not sure why, and I'm not sure if I changed in any way. But I kind of miss the things that I can do with the un-lazy person that I am before.

:(

Happy 3rd CooCoo Anniversary!

Posted by biboybob Friday, April 25, 2008 0 comments

It was this day of 2005 when thirty kids (and kids at heart) went into a cramped classroom (which actually was a parking lot) in GT Tower. For three weeks they were to study one of the oldest programming languages on earth: COBOL. The group is composed of mostly fresh graduates from across the country, but there were also experienced ones, those who were called halimaw developers hehe. Together they studied, shared codes, jokes, and even lunches, and have developed a bond (not the one worth P100 000) among each of the members. Together they called themselves the CooCoo batch. ^^

So why the name CooCoo batch? A previous group called theirs COBOListas, and others proclaimed themselves as COBOLleros. Ours was picked because of a very funny reason: Our training room has a karaoke, and for some reasons, it was always tuned to 90.7 (Love Radio). And so there were several times when we had to stop coding to laugh at the DJ's jokes, and at their station ID (or whatever that is) "kukurukuku, kelangan pa ba imemorize yan?" Haha.

And so when the time came that we had to decide what name we want ourselves to be called, we went for CooCoo Batch! And each of the members was called a CooCoo! ^^

Today, some of the CooCoos have left "the company" where we all met and became friends, including me (I resigned on this same day last year), but as our saying goes: Once a CooCoo, always a CooCoo! Hahaha.

Happy anniversary CooCoos! Three years! Yeah! ^^

Sunburn!

Posted by biboybob Sunday, April 20, 2008 0 comments

And so I got back from my first (so far) beach trip this summer: Montemar Beach Club in Bagac, Bataan. It was an extra-hot day, your feet will literally burn if you stay on the sand for a minute.

The resort is huge, so big we weren't able to explore the whole place. Their shore wasn't as good as those of Palawan and Boracay, but their waves were probably the biggest ones that I've encountered. The thrilled kids in in us were hyper: a few minutes after arrival we immediately went swimming into the beach. We just stopped for lunch, and then went back again to the water until around 3pm.

The water and the waves were enough for me to ignore the heat of the sun, and forget that I have to apply sunblock not just on my face. After the fun, the skin on my shoulders was that of a lechon. Argh, sunburns! Sobrang hapdi! They're making it hard for me to sleep, konting galaw lang ramdam ko na!

Price to be paid for being so excited. It can't be helped. :((

Nognog pics at my Multiply site.
